I'm GIDDY About This...

Earlier this week I was ugly crying like Kim, but today....
 This is me.  :)

I'm CRAZY excited.  Like for real weirdly excited to share this with you today.  I want you to understand how LIFE-CHANGING this could be for us all.

Think for a second about the amount of time you spend at the grocery story a week.  I probably spend 1 1/2 to 2 hours....depending on what we need.  I make a BIG trip once a week to get everything and then usually I have to go for a smaller trip later.  That is ALL about to change.

We've all heard of this...
Right?

Well, have you heard of Wal-Mart Grocery Pick-Up?

I got to experience this on Tuesday and for real-my weekly grocery shopping will never be the same.

Let me tell you a little about the program:
*You can go HERE to create an account.  This is also where you'll be able tell if they offer it in your area.  The closest Wal-Mart to me does not offer this service, but in my opinion it was worth the drive!

*After you've created an account, you can begin shopping.  I found the quickest way for me to shop was just to type in the search bar exactly what I was looking for.  Instead of clicking on "Dairy" and scrolling through until I found cream cheese it was much faster to type in "cream cheese".

*Overall, it did NOT take me a long time to "shop".  I did it while I was making my grocery list.  You pay right then when you're ready to check out online.

*You also select your pick-up time.  Please note that it cannot be the same day.  Or at least it couldn't be in my case.  Just know you need to "shop" at least the day before.  The choices are all two hour time slots for pick up.

*You'll get a call about thirty minutes before your pick up time begins.  The sweet worker asked what time I thought I'd be there.  Just so they have a better idea.

*You pull up and they load your car with your goodies.  YOU DON'T EVEN HAVE TO GET OUT OF THE CAR!!  I'm gonna repeat that because I think it's important...YOU DON'T EVEN HAVE TO GET OUT OF YOUR CAR!  I might have sprinted out of my car to shake the worker's hand because I was so excited about this.  But...I was informed that next time I can stay in my car.  haha!

*There is NO fee!!!  It's completely FREE!!

No more of this...

Or hauling around a cart full of food and other goodies...
I drive by two other grocery stores to get to the closest Wal-Mart, so to be honest usually I don't go to Wal-Mart for groceries.  But with this program that will change.  I do think in the future I'll get my meat and produce on a quick trip to my closest grocery store.  I learned that I like being able to choose my meat and produce.  Then I'll stock up on everything else with this service from Wal-Mart.

Did I mention paper towels and kids' shampoo were also a part of my last trip?  It doesn't have to be JUST groceries.

And...I SAVED money!  There's no adding things to your cart as you walk by.  I ONLY came home with the things on my list!

There were a couple items I had chosen that were out of stock, so this is what they do in that situation...they get something similar if they have it (organic celery instead of regular celery) or maybe a different brand if one brand is all sold out.  They do ask you about all those changes when they deliver your groceries.  You have the choice to decline.

For real!!  Grocery shopping is one of my least favorite things, so this is a game changer for me!

I want to add that Wal-Mart has nothing to do with this post.  These are all my opinions and I just wanted to share them with you.  :)

Some of you have probably done this a lot.  We would all LOVE to hear your thoughts and bits of advice!!  Thank you so much!!  XOXO

I did this yesterday and it was awesome! I was very happy with my produce. I don't buy meat from Walmart so I still go to Kroger/Costco but for everything else I'll be doing Walmart! Merry Christmas!

So jealous! Kroger does this as well...do you all have Kroger down there? Anyway, no Krogers or Walmarts by me do it (in Illinois) but I so wish they did!

We have had that the past year at our Iowa grocery store, Hy-Vee and it seriously IS life-changing! I sometimes can't even believe I just pull up and they LOAD them for me! Now I will wait for Walmart to do it here and when Costco starts this program, I will be SET!!!

This is starting to be a big thing in Indianapolis where I live! I am one of those weird people who LOVE going to the grocery and could go every day, but I still want to try it- ha! Happy Thursday :)

Our Walmart doesn't offer this but a grocery store chain in our town does. My mother in law gifted me the service (it's 99.95 a year here). It has been a life changer!! I have four kids and I have no idea why I hadn't signed up earlier. Usually I will shop online at night and pick it up the next day on our way home from preschool.

I live near Bentonville (close to walmart home office) and our stores have had this option for a couple of months! It's so awesome!! When you purchase produce items (even eggs), the employee will show you what they have selected and you have the option to have it removed if it isn't to your liking. I'm picky about things like bananas and tomatoes, but for things like celery, carrots, or potatoes, it was really nice! It's also nice for bottled water/drinks and paper goods! I highly suggest it to anyone thinking about trying it.

Harris Teeter in Virginia does this! It's awesome!! They do charge $4.95 but there are ways to get it waived. I figure I save more than that by not making impulse buys!

How awesome that Walmart does this now! For about a year now our grocery stores have been doing this, but I didn't not realize that Walmart did it! Defiantly going to check and see if my local Walmart does it!

Erica -Isn't this just amazing? I've been using this service for about a month now and it is LIFE changing. It had to have been created by a mom!

Our grocery store here in Iowa (Hy-Vee) does this but they deliver it to YOUR FRONT DOOR. Amazing. We just shop online, select everything, add it to the cart, put in coupon codes, and then select a date/time for delivery! It is a $5 fee but that's a flat fee whether you spend $10 or $200 on groceries! SO WORTH IT.

I tried it last month - and blogged about my experience. I REALLY wanted to like it...but I ended up going back for things they didn't have, I didn't get the amount I thought I would or for meat and produce, because you just need to be able to see that stuff. I am so glad you had a good experience, maybe I will try again!

Back when I lived in NJ our grocery store had this and for $10 they would deliver it to your house and bring the groceries in for you... It was seriously the best thing ever! I used the heck out of that service the year I had AJ. Grocery shopping is my least favorite thing to do. I need to check this out

I need to do this!! Shopping with a 5 month old isn't too ideal, lol!! I never shop at Walmart though. If only Heb offered this!!

Hmm...town about 40 minutes away does this, but not my town. I may make the drive just so that my grocery trip involves kids watching iPads in the car and me sipping coffee rather than a fight in aisle 7 and sensible grocery shopping shoes! haha!

Giiirrlll, it IS life-changing! I don't do my grocery shopping at Wal-Mart (like you, I just can't do my meat and produce there and that's mostly what I buy) but luckily my local grocery store does this too and it's amaaazing!! It took me about a half hour the first time to set up my list and now it's just an easy click-click-click. I drive up, they load me up and I'm good to go... seriously, a HUGE deal!!

That's awesome. I don't have it in my area yet, but finger's crossed, it comes soon. If you're shopping there, you should also download the Walmart Savings Catcher app. You scan your receipt and not only does it store it in your phone for returns, but it compares all of your items' prices to stores around your area, and if it's found cheaper somewhere else, they give you the difference on a gift card on the app! I've gotten about $30 back over the past several months!

Can't wait to hear what you think!

Erika Slaughter said...

Yes!!! See what you think and let me know. :)

Erika Slaughter said...

I know!!!

Erika Slaughter said...

Yes, we have Kroger but I haven't heard of it being offered in our area. I'll check on it though just to be sure. Thank you!

Erika Slaughter said...

That is amazing! Wish Market Street would do this!

Erika Slaughter said...

If you love going to the grocery store, you should get a job with this program. You could shop for others all day long! :)

Erika Slaughter said...

That is amazing!! And what a great gift!!

Erika Slaughter said...

Yes!! I had huge packs of paper towels and toilet paper in my order. :)

Erika Slaughter said...

I completely agree!! I saved a ton!

Erika Slaughter said...

Yes, it's worth a shot. :)

Erika Slaughter said...

So true!! Hahaha! Definitely a mom. Yes, it was so good to see Jeni! Can't wait to see what you do with that baby's room!

Erika Slaughter said...

That is incredible!!! And definitely worth the $5!!!

Erika Slaughter said...

Oh no!!! They didn't have one thing that I needed so I had to stop somewhere else but I just ran in to get that one thing so it wasn't a big deal.

Erika Slaughter said...

That is awesome! I wish our grocery stores offered this too! Check it out and see if there's one near you.

Erika Slaughter said...

I hear you!!! If only they would have done this when my kiddos were tiny! I'm gonna make up for it now! Haha!

Erika Slaughter said...

That actually sounds super peaceful!! Haha! You should give it a shot!

Erika Slaughter said...

Yes!!! I'm telling you-life changing! :)

Erika Slaughter said...

So glad you mentioned that! I need to download that app!

I am a big Kroger shopper and they have just started doing this as well! It's not in my area yet, but I am praying it comes soon! I am single with no kids, but I live in a super snowy area and hate trying to push a shopping cart in the parking lot of snow!

Emily said...

If this is in your area you need to look in to Amazon Fresh. Oh it's 11 and you realized you're out of milk. Scan your empty milk carton, they send you a scanner, set a delivery window of 4 AM and you will get up and your milk will be sitting on your front porch! You can do your grocery shopping in your kitchen by scanning everything you need as it runs out and it gets saved to your cart! There is an annual fee for unlimited delivery but it's worth it!

That would definitely be a life changer and a budget changer...less time for me to find something I didn't already know I needed!

I love this idea especially during the Holidays.

Amazing, right??? I live in NW Arkansas (Walmart country) so they began it here about a year or more ago as a prototype. Seriously the best thing ever! Who doesn't love grocery shopping from their couch in their pajamas?! :)

Grant Happy said...

HEB is doing it at select stores in the Houston area. I am going to try it ... now that I hear about Wal-Mart's services and your experiences!!

I live In Bentonville, AR (the home of Walmart) and they have tested this here for the last year and it is awesome! The first time I did it it took me a while online to select all my products but now I am really quick plus the website suggests items you have bought in the past . The associates are super friendly and our pick up location and they always ask if I want to look over my produce.

Our local grocery store (HyVee) has a similar program as well as an even better one. I live in Des Moines and HyVee has the same program you described above and they also have a program where they will deliver your groceries to you - for free! Totally taking advantage of that this winter after baby number 2 shows up and the thought of trying to leave my house in the dead of winter with 2 under 3 sounds awful.

I'm in Minnesota and there are several stores that deliver groceries. I do it anywhere from one to four times a month depending what I need and the one I use charges $5. Totally and completely worth it.

When I have babies, I can definitely see this as being a GREAT resource. Until then, I think I'll continue doing it myself. I just love grocery shopping, call me crazy!

Thanks for sharing :)

I used this service at our local grocery store just this week. I don't do it every week but it sure is nice when you need it. Our service started out free but now there's a $2.95 service charge. Totally worth it to me!

Clareio said...

i'm wondering if its maybe not a thing over there.. but for the last 18 months for £6 a month I have had every single weekly shop delivered to my door... I loathe grocery shopping to the point that I panic when i go inside a large store and I have also cut my grocery bill by 2/3 by ordering it online!

Dollie said...

I didn't know this about Walmart, thanks for sharing this! I've always shopped for groceries at whole foods, because they offer this service too. Do you know if it include anything from Walmart? Or just groceries?

Kelsey Schwartz said...

The grocery store (Giant) up here in PA has been doing that for a while. Recently they introduced PeaPod...they deliver the groceries to your house! I know a few people that use that and they love it! I'm fairly certain there is a small fee associated or at least a spending minimum.

Jackie Belin said...

Life.changing is right! I can.not.wait. for this to come to my area!

Deb said...

This service just came to our area and life changing is the exact word I use when telling people about it! Not having to load and unload the baby at the store is great and it helps the budget since I don't make impulse purchases.

Make sure you share your referral code with friends. You both save $ when they use it!

Catching up on blog reads & just saw this. I have to echo - life changing! I have been using this for about two months here in Alabama. Two weeks ago I had major surgery & a friend has been doing my grocery pickups. It has been a godsend! I just shop online & pay & she goes & picks it up the next morning & brings it to my house. I've already paid so it's less complicated. So awesome. Kudos to Walmart!
