Top Three-Things That Drive Me Batty

Happy Thursday, Friends!  Today, I'm getting up on my soapbox and dishing about the things that drive me batty.  The things that really get me fired up.  Pet peeves so to speak.  I should definitely add these are all very "Mom" things that drive me nuts.  The Mama Bear in me is coming out today, friends.  haha!

These are the top three things that really drive me crazy....
#1  Commercials
We all love ABC Family's (Now Freeform) 25 Days of Christmas, right?  We're DVRing shows and movies all December long to watch whenever we have a second.  Our entire family enjoys it, right?  Three-year-old all the way up to my husband, but let me tell you what I noticed.  My children were watching a recorded Toy Story from this past 25 Days of Christmas and during one of the commercial breaks there's a new show with two people in bed naked wrapped up in sheets.  WHY, oh WHY would ABC Family choose to advertise this clearly adult television show in the middle of a Disney cartoon movie?  That kind of thing drives me CRAZY!  This kind of thing often happens with a commercial-in the middle of a very appropriate show for kids-using ugly language.  WHY, oh WHY do they do that??  Do the people making these decisions not have children?  Have they not thought these same thoughts before?  UGH!  We think we're making a good choice by a very "G" rated movie only to discover that during a commercial break-the commercial was practically rated, "R".  Makes a lot of sense, right?  AGH!!  I don't get it.

#2  Lyrics
Let the record show that if I ever make it as a big pop artist ALL of my songs will be appropriate for people of all ages.  :)  We love listening to music-in the car, at home, wherever.  We listen to lots of Christian music because it's SAFE!  I never have to worry about what new word they might hear.  With that being said, sometimes an evening dance party needs some music with a real beat, right?  It drives me crazy that almost every new "hit" song that's out now has bad language or is at least insinuating something really nasty.  Even Taylor Swift songs have naughty words that I don't want my six-year-old repeating.  We listen to a lot of Kidz Bop (on Pandora) because all naughty things they change to a new word.  But...while I'm listening it drives me crazy that Kidz Bop even has to do that!!  Can you guys promise me if you ever become a famous music artist your songs will be very "G" as well?  :)

#3 Lane Closed Ahead
This one really does it for me.  You guys know exactly what we're talking about, right?  If everyone would just politely move over to the open lane as soon as they see the sign, then traffic could keep going at a slow pace.  BUT...when you drive all the way to the end of the lane and THEN get over it makes the entire side of the road have to stop to let you in.  I'm one of those crazy people who will drive in the middle of the lanes so that no one can go around me.  You know those people?  ha!  In my opinion if there's not a baby coming out of your lady parts type of emergency, then you can wait like everyone else to get through this little bit of construction.  Isn't that fair?  :)

Whew!  Girls!  Now, I'm dying to hear your crazy.  What gets under your skin?  Do you have any Mama Bear moments?  Hope you enjoyed a few laughs this morning!  Have a great day!  XOXO

YES to all of this...but especially #3! I'm totally the girl that gives a scolding look to the person trying to scoot over at the last minute. I might even raise my arms at this. Maybe. #thatwillteachem

The commercial thing drives me crazy! Smith was watching something on ABC Family the other day and there was a Viagra commercial! Does he really need to hear about ED? No! Ugg!

I know, right?? We were watching The Westminiater Dog Show on Animal Planet the other night, and people were getting killed in the commercials!! Goodness, we just wanted to watch a a bunch of cute doggies--not a violent crime!! Haha! ;)

The whole lane thing drives me nuts and I am that person that will not let them in;).
As for the music and the commercials, it is definitely hard but I probably don't shield my kids as much from this kind of stuff. They know just because they hear it in a song or see something on tv it's not allowed here. Definitely a tough one for sure.

Every single one!!! Those are three of my top ten pet peeves right there. The Super Bowl drove me nuts with the commercials! Everyone knows that families gather to watch the Super Bowl and everyone watches, so why did they feel the need to advertise grown up shows (with inappropriate scenes) right in the middle of a show that families are watching? I won't even start on the half time show and Beyonce! Song lyrics are also a sore spot. I have kids that range in age from 14-4 and it's almost impossible to find non-Christian music that we can all enjoy in the car. I am so bummed that Taylor Swift's latest songs use words like "hell" and talk about sex. :(

I know what you mean about those commercials!
I always drive by homes in February and want to tell them it's time to take the Christmas manger scene out of their yard:) But then part of me totally understands.

Spot on!!! We have a regular rotation of Kids Bop and the Christian radio station - I just can't trust the pop station!! I am a regular commuter and see traffic nightmares everyday...I can forgive an out of county or out of state car - but if your license has the same county I am in, don't play dumb...I know you know this lane is going to merge!! Drives me insane!!

Preach! As far as the language and adult content, it does NOT get easier as the children get older. I have speed scrambled looking for our remote when watching TV with our 13 year old when a Cilasis (sp?) ad comes on--ugh, the worst! I need to be better about blocking obnoxious drivers because waiting till the last minute to merge in a construction zone is the worst. familyoffoley.wordpress.com

YES! YES! YES! Yes to them all! I hate commercials! HATE! Music, all we listen to 95% is Christian because it is a safe tune to get stuck. Traffic....well....sigh...

When people say "so and so and I" as a picture caption. It's ME!

When bloggers (not you) use habitually bad grammar, lack of appropriate capitalization, and endless runons...ESPECIALLY if they are making money off their blogs!

When people complain about their kids being around in front of their kids.

Oh Erika, I am so with you on the ABC "family" thing! I got so mad a few months ago at some inappropriate commercials during "Finding Nemo" that I wrote a nasty letter to ABC Family. Ironically, a few months after I found out they were changing their name.

Bahaha...I'm that "one" who gets in the middle lane to block people too! Drives me nuts (Eldorado has been bad and I did that).

The commercial thing REALLY burns me up! We Tivo'd Toy Story of Terror on ABC back during Halloween and there were so many inappropriate movie trailers and commercials on it. WHY????

They should really have rules set in place... I mean, if the show you're watching is G rated then shouldn't all of the commercials be too?!

GIRL! I am so with you on the traffic one and I am also a middle of 2 lanes driver! It burns me up when people are rude like that!

My small group was just talking about the ABC Commercials at Bible Study yesterday! They're so inappropriate!
Frozen butter drives me crazy! When you're at a nice restaurant and they bring you a basket of hot bread, and you're ready to splurge on some carbs, and then the stinking butter is so frozen it won't spread on your bread. It's the dumbest thing ever!

I HATE when people do number 3. I have never seen anyone drive in the middle. Next time...I'm doing that. Thanks for the tip. :)

I'm so glad that you said something about the commercials and the language etc. in songs. It's sickening!
(I don't think it's done by accident.) Ugh!

#2 drives me crazy! I have a 13 yo boy and its hard to stop him from listening to it. I just use them as teaching moments and let him know what/why it's inappropriate. Because he likes it then my 3 yo does too. Such a struggle! On the commercial thing we have Dish Network and on the prime time shows (the main channels) there is what is called a commercial hopper. So I fortunately did not have that problem. You just start the show and set to skip all commercials! It's the best! Katie

Yes to all of the above especially #2! As a dance teacher I struggle to find age appropriate music for my classes. Good clean lyrics that send a good message!
Have a great day!

We have a barbie car that my kids push the barbies around in, while doing laundry today the radio on the car starting singing The Hills by The Weekend.... & if you know which song I am talking about!!!!! you would cringe. I thought of your post. This is a toy car bought from the toy store!!! seriously, it sings songs that are on the radio. I don't know how it even works but apparently neither did the people who designed it. It should play disney songs, or sing the alphabet... anything!!!
