What's Your Fave...

If you guys are like us, Tab and I will get a babysitter and have a dinner out in the books.  As we're heading out the door we'll play the "Where do you wanna go?" game.  We can't think of a new place.  We tend to get in a rut and always head to the same places for date night.

You might not be local, but odds are you've been to Dallas, know someone who lives close, or are coming to visit soon, so I thought it'd be not only fun but helpful if we all shared our favorite date night restaurants.  I'm thinking the entire Dallas/Ft. Worth area.

I absolutely LOVE my children, but date night with the hubby is a breath of fresh air.  Amen, Mamas?

This one made me laugh.  Those kids can get pricey!!  But trust me, investing in your marriage even if it's by paying a babysitter so you can have a night out alone is WORTH IT!!

Here are a few of our favorite places...
It's a really "cool" restaurant.  Mexican is our fave and this place is just fun.

Please excuse that car parked RIGHT in the middle of the picture.  We love supporting our town and this new restaurant is delicious!

This is a gourmet Mexican restaurant and the food and atmosphere is great!  It's definitely one of our FAVES!

We went to Eddie V's for a double date night back in the summer and had the best time.  We don't drive to Dallas very often just for dinner, but when we do, we're never disappointed.

Sometimes date night are even more fun with friends!

On our last visit, in the middle of my salad I got a call from the babysitter saying that two of my kids were locked out the little balcony we have on the second story of our house.  She went on to say that she couldn't get to them because the doors to get there were also locked.  Did I panic?  No, because we were at Rick's and it's delicious.  :)  And apparently I can describe to someone over the phone how to pick a lock.  Impressed?

Okay, now it's your turn!  I want to hear from you!  Where's your favorite date night place in the DFW area??  If you're not local, please leave your favorite place but just include where that's located.  Someone else might be from around those parts and truly be thankful for your recommendation.  I have a feeling after your suggestions I'm gonna need my babysitter on speed dial.  :)

Happy Thursday!

When we vacation in Dallas, we hit up Campise's. The Egyptian Lounge location is such a fun throwback but any location serves great food.

My husband used to work close to a Campisi's. It was pre-kids so we went frequently but it's been ages since I've been lately. Thanks for this suggestion!

Oh, Javier's is our favorite!! We haven't been there in ages though! Yum!

I was going to say Eddie V's too! And then I'll throw in Joe T. Garcia's because as a DFW girl, I just should :).

Isn't it delish??

Joe T's-we haven't been in ages!

When people think of Orlando they think of Disney (and there are many famous chefs that have restaurants there and at Universal). But whenever my husband has coworkers or clients come into town, he always takes them to the Ravenous Pig or Cask & Larder in Winter Park. Very yummy, unique American gastropub type foods. Rav Pig is often featured in food profiles of Orlando and nominated for James Beard awards- and it deserves it!

Just so you know, I probably would have called the fire department from Rick's.

My favorites are Rise No. 1 in Inwood Village (they serve entree and dessert soufflés and it is the CUTEST place!) and Hattie's in Bishop Arts District (trendy Southern dishes....hello fried green tomatoes!)

Lonesome Dove Western Bistro and Saint Emilion, both in Fort Worth, are both delicious and definitely worth the trip over!

Bishop Arts or Trinity Groves is totally worth the drive for date night! We love Tillmans and their table side s'mores! Or Casa Rubia for tapas and sangria!

We love Coal Vines, RA and Nicolas at Shops at Legacy. We also can't get enough of Whiskey Cake in Plano. If you are feeling super fun, you can never go wrong with Dallas Grilled Cheese Company in Bishop Arts (plus I mean it's walking distance to Emporium Pies...hello, it doesn't get any better) I love fun places for date night!

I'm a Fort Worth girl. I love a good date night that includes a yummy dinner with my man. Water's (Jon Bonnell's restaurant) is a new favorite. Yummy, fresh seafood and a romantic atmosphere. Head over to Magnolia Ave and have coffee with your date at Brewed. Brewed also has yummy desserts and their brunch menu is excellent. Of course, in true Fort Worth fashion a yummy steak house is highly recommended...Del Friscos. Order the creamed spinach and thank me later. Del's Delight or the lemon cake for dessert. Again, thank me later! Ha.

Yes, I live in DC :) but...all my family lives in Arlington. Anytime we visit them, we all go to Joe T's. I've been going there since I was 5 weeks old (and now I'm 34). Good for family time too!

I recently went to Dallas for a business trip and our client took us to Truluck's in Dallas, one of the best restaurants I've been to and I live in NYC!

I don't know any of these - and I have only spent time in the Dallas airport, but they all sound amazing. Maybe next time I need to exit the runway and spend some time in Texas!!

Well, if you ever come up to Utah again, or any state around Utah (Nevada, Colorado, Idaho, Arizona, etc.) you HAVE to go to Café Rio. Everyone I know always makes sure to go when visiting. It is SOOOO good. You have to get a Barbacoa Pork Salad (which I thought it was funny when I saw Andrea's pork recipe because it is a bit similar to the copy cat recipes you find for this pork--but they don't compare). It's lettuce, black beans, cilantro rice, pico de gallo, the sweet pork, and their AMAZING creamy cilantro dressing, all served in a tin thing on a fresh tortilla. I'm not kidding. BEST FOOD EVER. There is another place that's a copy cat (but in my opinion, not quite as good) called Costa Vida. Seriously, just go to caferio.com and drool just looking at it. It's THE BEST!
And looking at all of your recommendations makes me want to move to Dallas even more!

Erika Slaughter said...

I've heard of Cafe Rio and another trip might be in our future. Is there one in Park Cities?

Erika Slaughter said...

Yes, you do girl!!! :)

Erika Slaughter said...

I've heard of that but haven't been. We need to try it out soon. Thanks for the suggestion!

My kids are big Joe T fans. If the weather is good, it's the perfect outdoor spot.

Erika Slaughter said...

Girl-you've got me wanting to plan a date night in Ft Worth!! This sounds awesome!

Erika Slaughter said...

I forget about that Bishop Arts area! We've only been to Whiskey Cake once but we loved it!

I need to add these spots to my list!

Oh I second the cafe rio comment. My favorite restaurant of all time! But locally we love Chuy's and Rusty Taco which I think they're changing to R Taco.

We love La Hacienda Ranch! They have one in Frisco and another in Dallas. They have the best tableside guacamole and fajitas. In fact, we are going there for my birthday dinner!

Dianna said...

La Hacienda Ranch in Colleyville is great. We also like Mariano's in Arlington owned by the same family. And of course the Babe's locations all over DFW are great! We also like Cantina Laredo, Hoffbrau (excellent fried pickles), and Mi Cocina. Can you tell we love Mexican?

Oh this is my jam right here :) Ryan and I like trying new places (usually from Groupons or The Entertainment book), so I've got a collection of favs. My dad also takes us to really cool places he takes clients. My #1 favorite steak place is Pappas Bros. And they've got a killer lobster mac. My other favorite steak places are: Al Biernat's, Chamberlains, Nick & Sams and Trulucks (also has seafood). Trulucks has a great lobster bisque and wedge salad (great steak too).

I love Jaspers in Plano. They've got great blue cheese potato chips as an app and the BEST salmon I've ordered at a restaurant (but that was a while ago if it's still the same). I love Pappadeaux Seafood, but I have to admit it's mainly for the incredibly delicious cheese sticks that come as an appetizer (they're classy cheese sticks...lol). They have one on Hwy75 before 635. And one of my favorite pizza places is Taverna Rosso in Plano near Breadwinners (and less expensive than most places I'm mentioning). They've got this cake/ice cream with crispy bacon on top that is really good. And their pizza is amazing.

And a few places we haven't been but I've heard great things about are: Wild Salsa (that new Mexican place that opened in Shops of Fairview). My mom has gone on and on about a place called Neighborhood Services (weird name, but she says it's amazing). They have one in Addison which may be closer to us. And both my parents say that the restaurant inside the theater LOOK is incredible if you want a movie too (I think the restaurant is called Ivy...they also have a pizza place). It's similar to iPic. You can eat before movie in restaurant or during movie and order. The theater is near Addison on Beltline. Great, now I want to go to all of these places :)

I'll tell Dave not to take it personally that Stonebridge didn't make your list... But I can't guarantee that he won't cut off your honey mustard dressing supply :)

Also, if you're looking for a divey date night, you need to hit up Bakers Drive In on Highway Five for burgers and onion rings.

Rick's is one of my favorites, too! In fact I have a gift card from Christmas I need to go use there! We also LOVE Jasper's at The Shops at Legacy! Everything I've ever had there has been amazing! Covino's in Plano is one of our favorites, too. It looks like a whole in the wall, but the food is perfection!

Texas De Brazil in Dallas! My husband and I went to visit our family in Mansfieled recently and they took us there and it was SO good!

If you are ever in Tulsa, Kilkenney's is fantastic. It's an Irish Pub - the food is delicious and the atmosphere is so cool! Get the Irish Balloons for dessert! I am from OKC and would say for high end date nights: Mahogany, Red Prime, Vast (food is good but the atmosphere and view is unbeatable). I could name TONS of places but I'll stop with those 3! :)

When I was visiting ny brother in little Elm went to Babes, it's a family style fried chicken and it was delicious! The salad was so good! I am not positive where it was but its between McKinney and little elm!

Also on the note if cafe rio in Utah there is not one in park city but there is one just off the freeway about halfway to the airport. It's so good! They're expanding into more states currently!

The Ravenous Pig is AMAZING!! My husband and I would go there on date nights often pre-kids and pre-moving. I love that it's tucked back and quaint. A great date night/mom's night out pick!!

We live right by Javier's so our favorite date night spots are near us. Our ultimate, hands down, most favorite date place in all the world is R+D Kitchen!!! We seriously always end up there. But our favorite thing to do is get there a little early and get a spot at the bar. We love eating at the bar and really do prefer it over getting an actual table. Their Rainbow Roll is the best thing I've ever eaten! They are known for their hamburger. And their pine room salad (a kale salad) is fabulous! I can't say enough good things about R+D and HIGHLY recommend it!!! Another favorite for us is Carbone's. It's Italian and absolutely amazing! Do know that they only serve wine, no cocktails. It's such a fun place!!!

Here are a few of my faves!
1. Nick and Sam's for a nice, dressy date night
2. Stampede 66 is seriously so yummy and "Texas" themed decor
3. Trinity Groves - we love LTO Kitchen (they change up the chef and decor every few months which is what LTO stands for - Limited Time Only) plus we like Resto Gastro Bistro down there, as well. For dessert there's a cake place around back called Cake Bar and oh em gee - so delish!
4. Bishop Arts - Hattie's, Tillman's or Dallas Grilled Cheese Co.
5. Knox/Henderson - Mesero is fun Mexican place or The Porch has a great menu, too!
6. Fireside Pies or Cane Rosso are my favorite pizza places!
7. Square Burger in Downtown McKinney is hands-down my favorite burger place
8. Lastly :) the most random thing ever - there's a little restaurant in Murphy called Southfork Steak and Crab and their chicken fried chicken has the most amazing gravy I've EVER eaten

Ok, I swear I don't weigh 400lbs, but I really do love all the amazing dining we have here in Dallas :)!

If you ever find yourself up in Sherman, there's a fantastic restaurant called City Limits. It's family owned and operated, and it has the best atmosphere, food, and margaritas!!! It's a must every time I go home from college!!

Love Covinos!! Super yummy Italian. :)

Oh man! This is the best post. I moved to NM in high school from Houston but Dallas has a special place in my heart. Pappasitos is hands down the best mexican food in the world! I would do anything for some fajitas and queso! I'm allergic to gluten but I would eat ten tortillas if I could eat there right now. La Madeline is a fave - ceaser salad and tomato bisque. Taco Cabana and Whataburger because who could go wrong there!!!! I'm saving this post for my future trips to the big D.

Haha your kiddos!! Hilarious. We love whiskey cake in Plano. That should be your next date. It was amazing. And you have to order the whiskey cake for dessert. That was our last date night before we moved. We had to go one more time. And now that I think about it, that was our last date night we've had. Wow. Need to get one on the books asap.
