BONUS Saturday Post!

Okay, Ladies!

A BONUS Saturday post!  :)  WAHOO!

The kiddos and I got back to Texas last night and I did a quick try on session of everything that had arrived from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale.  Sidenote-Tab left mid-week for a football clinic and he turned the A/C upstairs completely off.  Any guesses on how HOT our upstairs was??

I've gotta tell you most of my purchases were WINS!

Here we go...

This burgundy dress...I love this one!  It comes in three different fall colors and will be cute paired with heels or booties ALL FALL LONG!

Girls!!!  I kind of LOVE this one too!  This ruffled jumpsuit fit great.  It is junior sizing so I sized up because {long torso} but I love the way the medium fit.  If you're long, I'd recommend sizing up.  I think I'll wear this with and without a denim jacket!  I must tell you the back has about a three inch spot that's open so my strapless bra shows.  I'm gonna see if my tailor could add something to cover that up.  If you're someone who can get away without a bra, then no worries!

And I kind of loved this jumpsuit as well.  The ruffled one above I can wear out and about, but this tweed jumpsuit is more dressy {and a little more out of my comfort zone}.  I'll wear this to church and other more formal events.  I need to have it hemmed just a teeny bit.

Talking about being out of my comfort zone...these pants!  I really wish I could make these work, but I think I'm just not trendy enough.  I'd pair them with something shorter waisted {because the pants are a little more high-waist}, but I just don't think they're "me".  I really like the plaid top AND the booties!  {bad pic of the booties and don't mind the semi-naked baby blur}

I'm LOVING this top for the fall!  GREAT fall color, but I sent this pic to a few girls in my family and the majority were NOT fans of my pants.  I'm gonna return these.  #itried

Due to the fact it was crazy hot in my house, I couldn't make myself put on real jeans.  :)  This Free People top I sized down in and when I wear it out, I'll put a cami underneath.  Parts of the top are lace only, so you can definitely see through.

The two gifts sets I purchased...mascara set and glowing skin set.

Don't mind the wrinkles, but this top will be something I grab constantly until it cools off!  The two reviews says it runs large, but I ordered my normal size and I thought it was very true to size.

I also scored this long cardigan and know it'll get all kinds of wear.

I ordered all of the above for Britt, but the coat is way too big and so are the Toms.  Those two are going back, but the others are HITS!  And she LOVES the light up high-tops BIG TIME!
Ebby Lee is stoked about these sneakers.  I mean if you were nine, wouldn't you be?  ha!

I have a few other items in the process of being delivered.  As they make their way in, I'll let you know if I stumble upon any treasures.  ;)

Hope you guys have a great Saturday!

Friday Favorites

Hi Friends!

This is the time in the summer when I start to panic about doing all the things.  The start of school is quickly's exactly ONE MONTH FROM TODAY.  EEEEEKKKK!!!!  My kids don't read this blog, but if they did we'd have heard a big gasp from the oldest two.  ha!  Not to worry, we still have lots of fun planned for the last four weeks.  Hope you are soaking up the last of your summer as well!

Today, I'm driving the crazies back to Texas after spending time with the family and as always, I'm teaming up with Narci and Andrea to bring you FRIDAY FAVORITES.  It's the day of the week we invite bloggers to join us by sharing their faves.

First up, the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is now LIVE TO THE PUBLIC.  If you don't have a Nordstrom card and have been waiting anxiously to shop the sale, NOW is your time!  You can shop the entire sale NOW!

Okay, don't mind my post-pool crazy hair, but I wanted to share these shoes with you!  The wedge sneakers are CUTE, you guys!  My big fear was they wouldn't be very comfortable and one thing I know about myself is when I'm getting ready for the day 9/10 times I'm grabbing the shoe that's more comfortable.  These are comfy!  In the fall, I think I could throw a sweater over this outfit and go!  Or I could dress them up with jeans.  Think they'll be a fall FAVORITE!  I know sizing has been super limited for a while, but I'm hoping a restock happens ASAP!

*Oh, and these were not in my original, "What I bought from the Anniversary Sale" post because I made a late-night purchase one night (after my big purchase) while I was searching the site.  Somehow they showed up before all my other goodies.

One more of the shoes (and cute baby feet)...I'm telling you-CUTE!

I didn't plan this road trip well, because everything else has arrived at my house in Texas while we've been in Missouri.  So I can't show anything else today, but I'm hoping to throw a post up this weekend of my hits/misses from the sale.  You can see what I ordered in this post.

I just finished Tell Me Three Things last week.  I'm pretty sure I got this recommendation off some "Must Read List" on Pinterest.  #imasuckerforthose

This is a teen/young adult fiction book (thanks to those darn lists, I don't pay attention to that when ordering!!).  But I was a big fan of this one!  The main character, Jessie, loses her mom and her dad gets re-married moving the family to California.  That'd be tough anyway, but as junior in high school she really struggles with all the changes.  Someone begins anonymously messaging her giving her advice about her new school...who to befriend, best teachers, etc.  Throughout the story, you're guessing about the identify of this secret friend.  The author wraps it all up well at the end. Cute, cute read!

I've gotten lots of messages asking about when I read...I definitely have more time in the summer.  I read the ENTIRE way to Florida and back.  Most evenings I take a bath before bed and that's MY time to read for 20ish minutes before going to bed.  During the school year, I don't knock as many books off my list because I don't have as much down time.

The conversation I had with my FAVORITE five-year-old last weekend-
Bowen:  "Mom, Nixon thinks I have a crush on Shimmer and Shine."
{FYI, Shimmer and Shine are cartoon characters.}
Me:  "Do you?"
Bowen:  "No, Mom!  I'm not even into girls yet."

Did you check out my Tuesday Talk post this week?

I asked for app recommendations for kids and you guys were so sweet to send me some great recommendations.  If you're looking for some new ideas, go read the comments!

You guys I kid you not when I say the humidity gets my I-Phone camera all kinds of whack!  But, I wanted you to see this dress.  I ordered for summer and finally remembered to take a picture for you.  It's a really pretty color and can be dressed up or dressed down for many different occasions.

I think that wraps it up for today, friends!

Hope you have a GREAT weekend!

We're having a GREAT summer, but my family has moments like this.  Does yours?

We're soaking up our last few minutes of our family trip before driving back to Texas tomorrow.  I promise to be back for Friday Favorites though!  See you then!

Photo Every Hour 7.18.18

Hey Hey Everyone!

Hope you're having a great week!  Just last week I did a little Photo-Every-Hour over on my Instagram Stories.  I got a lot of messages from you guys saying you were fans, so I promise to do it a little more frequently.  Since we're in Missouri for the week, I thought it'd be fun to show you a peek into a day of family togetherness.  :)  Family is coming over to swim at my mom's house and it should be lots of fun.  So, be sure to follow along over on Instagram {slaughteren} where I'll be sharing as close to every hour as I possibly can.  #illtrynottoforget

Just in case you don't have Instagram, this was my day last Monday....a pretty typical summer day.

6:30 a.m.
I set my alarm to get up earlier but woke up in the middle of the night and could not go back to sleep.  I reset it in the middle of the night and slept way later.  Much, much needed!  I'm one of the those people who have the hardest time going to sleep if I wake up in the middle of the night.  #ugh  Lots of you asked me about this book, Finding I Am.  It's a bible study by Lysa TerKeurst.  I haven't been doing it long but I'm a big fan, so far.  I just download the videos on and watch those on my own.

7:30 a.m.
My little shadow and I were all ready for the gym!  I got lots of questions about my shorts.  You can find them here.  Looks like the stripe is sold out, but they come in several solid colors.

8:30 a.m.
I need a filter BIG TIME, but this is me right before our workout class began with two girlfriends, Shay and Brooke.  I promise the matching tops were accidental!

9:30 a.m.
I picked up these four from the gym childcare before we left to run a few errands.

10:30 a.m.
My favorite errand because I never have to leave the car!  :)

11:30 a.m.
We spent a couple hours at the pool playing with friends, eating lunch, and burning off some energy.

2:30 p.m.
The big kiddos got busy doing something quietly, Britt was taking a nap, and I worked.

4:00 p.m.
I enjoyed my afternoon cup of coffee and was still working while Britt kept sleeping.

5:30 p.m.
Tab and I locked ourselves outside while he grilled chicken for dinner.  And by locked I just mean that every time a child attempted coming out back, we'd send them right back inside.

7:30 p.m.
We took a family walk after dinner.

9:00 p.m.
Everyone was showered, ready for bed, and I enjoyed a bit of this book before going to sleep.  The Wedding Date was a girly, romantic novel that's RATED R.  I had several of you message me about it.  Most of you guys were fans, but you seemed to all go into it knowing it was rated R.  Just don't want anyone to be surprised!  :)

That was our Monday.

Be sure to follow along today as I share a "Day in our Life" every hour.

Happy Wednesday!

Tuesday Talk

Hey, Hey!

It's time for Tuesday Talk.  The time each month when Fancy Ashley and I host a link-up, inviting you to join, where you can chit chat about anything and everything.

I love these posts because quite often I think, "I should ask the sweet readers _____", and it's hard to do sometimes in a regular post.  But this is what Tuesday Talk was made for!

I need your help, today!

My older kiddos all have some form of an I-Pad.  We typically only bring them out for travel during vacations.  But we're in Missouri right now and I realized their games, apps, etc. are not age appropriate anymore.  For instance, Ebby Lee is working on a puzzle Bowen should be working on and she also has an app for kindergarten sight words.

Do your kiddos have apps they love?

I'd LOVE to hear your ideas...apps for 9-year-old girl who likes all things girly, for 8-year-old boy who enjoys all the sports, for 5-year-old boy who is a fan of it all...sports, legos, dinosaurs, etc., for 2-year-old girl who loves pushing all the buttons.  ha!

Seriously, please send some ideas my way!

Our nine-hour drive back to Texas thanks you.  And I do too. ;)

Catching Up

Happy Monday, Friends!

The kiddos and I left early this morning for a road trip to Missouri to see the family.  Why do nine hours in the car feel so much longer than nine hours with Bravo on my couch?  hahaha!

It's been a long time since I've shared a little I-Phone dump of pictures for you, so I thought it was time.  :)

A few weeks ago we showed up to Nixon's flag football game and they were short one player.  Well, guess who got to fill in?  That's right.  Bowen Slaughter stepped up as CENTER of their little team.  He did great!  I was so proud of him.  And he did it all wearing Natives, ladies.  #skills

One of Bowen's friends was sitting near me and I heard him tell his dad, "Well, no one is pulling Bowen's flags".  ha!

He's growing up right before my eyes.

Please note Bowen's "ready" position.

Seriously, proud of this kid.  And now he's dying to play flag football in the fall.  #herewego

Last weekend, we deemed it, "Double Date Night", and headed out to dinner and then a small local concert with the Shull crew.  Something I would tell my younger mama self is to get the sitter, grab some friends, and have a grown-up night out.  We did this when our kiddos were little but not as much as we should have.  Totally worth it!  (And photo credit goes to Shay.)

Recently the kiddos and I had our first majorly LAZY summer day.  We all slept in, did stuff around the house, and headed out to a late brunch around lunchtime.  For some reason, Bowen enjoyed the entire meal in these glasses.

Britt Slaughter does not shy away from the camera.  She saw me take a picture of Bowen and requested one of her own.

I finished this book recently and if you're a reader, stop what you're doing now to order this book.  My Oxford Year was such a well-written book.  You guys know I'm awful at book recaps, so be sure to see what Amazon has to say about it.  My favorite books to read are thrillers because you can't predict on page one what's gonna happen at the end (like typical chick-lit-though I read those too).  This one was definitely chick-lit, but I didn't see it coming...the middle/end was unexpected and I was a big fan!

Due to vacations and holidays, Britt skipped two weeks of speech.  I was a tad nervous about how she'd do when we went back after such a long break.  But she NAILED IT!  We have a long way to go in the speech department, but just last night she said, "Peek-a-boo".  HUGE milestone!

I finally got dressed in something other than a swimsuit/cover-up, which in my world needs to be documented.  The top is from Cassie's line at Nordstrom, (if you don't know what I'm talking about-a fellow blogger from Frisco, Hi Sugarplum, teamed up with Gibson at Nordstrom earlier this season with some of the cutest summer can see the entire line here) white jeans are as well, and the shoes are Ugg wedges from several years ago.

Ladies' Night Out with some of my favorite girls!

And that about wraps it up...we've been livin' the summer life lately.  Hope you're soaking up every bit of summer as well.

Have a great day!

Friday Favorites

Happy Friday, Friends!

We have a pretty low-key weekend {which are often times my favorite kind} before we head to Missouri next week to see the family.  Today, I'm teaming up with Narci and Andrea to share my FRIDAY FAVORITES.

Unless you've been living under a rock, I know you've heard a thing or two about the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale.  ;)  {It's happening NOW for cardholders and the sale goes live to the public on July 20th.} I promise this is not something you're going to hear a ton about over here on my little piece of the internet because I'm not a fashion blogger by any means, but I do enjoy sharing my style with you. I think we've discovered we're all a little nosy and I'm loving taking a peek into everyone's shopping carts!  I thought you might enjoy it too.  So, today I'm covering what I ordered from the sale and some other goodies I have that are worth a mention.

Let's get to it!

I've gotta start with my favorite finds from the sale...

Did anyone else think they killed it in the girl department this year?

Aren't these cute?  I got Ebby Lee these sneakers for school....glitter, pom poms, AND she can wear them to p.e....sign her up!  :)

You can see all the Anniversary Sale Girl Items here.  I really thought Nordstrom nailed the girl section of the sale!

Now onto beauty...I'd be lying if I said I couldn't have spent my entire sale budget in this category.  You know how I feel about trying all the products. :)  But I practiced self control and only grabbed this set...

Okay, now on to the womens' clothes and shoes!

I remember last year mentioning a couple items that were maybe a bit out of my trend comfort zone, and you guys were encouraging me to go for it.  Well, it happened again.  I'm totally drawn to these funky hem jeans.  I ordered this pair of  regular denim

and this black pair as well.  I promise to give you my thoughts next week after trying them both on.

This picture is from the sale last year, but I want to report AG's are back!  To be honest, I didn't order another pair because my AG jeans from last year are very similar AND in great shape.  If you're thinking about some designer denim, GET THESE!

Again, this is a picture from the sale last year, but if you don't have a blardigan, stop what you're doing and order now!  This version was new last year and has a hood.  If I'm voting for my favorite version, I'd choose this one.

This long cardigan is on it's way to me right now.  Isn't this one cute?

These Spanx faux leather leggings will be your BFF in your closet.  These are priced so well right now and are super comfy!  Last year, I shared a post featuring several different ways I style my leggings.

This top screamed, "FALL", to me so I had to give it a try.  :)

You girls know I love a jumpsuit so I ordered this one...

and this one.  {I'm thinking I'll pair them with a denim jacket in the fall.}

And I grabbed this top as well.

Normally, I go crazy in the shoe department, but I only ordered two pairs of shoes this year.  #wellseehowtheyfit

Like I said, I promise to not flood the blog with Nordstrom Sale posts for the next two weeks, but once those items arrive I will let you know what I think.  :)

What'd you order?  Any must-haves you have in your cart or on their way?

Thanks for reading today!  And Happy Friday, Friends!
