A Quick MO Trip

Whew!  I feel like this summer has been CRAZY!  We've had camps, traveled, spent lots of time at the pool, and have snuck in any lazy days we can.  It's been FABULOUS so far.  But this week is no different...summer for four more weeks!  Soaking it up!  ;)

If you missed my post on Saturday, you can see it here.  WHAT?!  A Saturday post?  I know.  I know.  CRAZY!

Last week when I realized we had nothing on the agenda, we made a last minute trip to Missouri to visit the family.  The kiddos and I left around 7:30 a.m. on Monday morning and arrived around 4:00 p.m.  It was GREAT timing and the ride couldn't have been better.  Thanks to our DVD player and snacks.

On Tuesday my grandparents had us over for an afternoon of games before an early dinner.  My grandma is the BEST cook.  {I'm sure everyone thinks that about their own grandma, but as I was eating I thought...whew!  I've got a long way to go in my cooking skills in order for my grandchildren to think that about me!  haha!}

On this trip, Britt was ALL about the guys.  She warmed up super quickly to my grandpa, Boo {her grandpa/my step-dad} and my brother.

My sweet grandma :)  The window behind us made us look a little angelic.

Wednesday morning, my day began with a snowman mug, coffee, and a straw.  Lots of you guys asked me about this.  I always drink my coffee with a straw.  I think it helps with coffee stains on my teeth...not really sure it does BUT it makes me feel better. ;)

My parents got this go-kart last year and my kids are obsessed.  Boo took Britt for a super slow ride on Wednesday morning.  She was a big fan and then upset she couldn't keep riding.

My parents live in the country so these city kids of mine LOVE the wide open spaces!

Around lunchtime lots of family came over for a little get together and it happened to be my nephew's sixth birthday so we celebrated him too!

We all SWAM!

And then the kiddos had a little kickball/soccer game in the front yard.

Everyone left and the kiddos and my parents settled down to watch a movie so I went outside for a little exercise.  I should add the weather in MO last week was absolutely delightful while here in Texas it was crazy hot!

My parents had bought some little fireworks for the kids to enjoy while we were there.

And we ended the night with Big Brother!

Thursday-my parents took the big kiddos to have lunch and watch a movie before the birthday party.  Britt and I stayed back and I worked while she took a big nap.  Then we left to the join the fun!

They watched Hotel Translyvania 3 and were big fans!

Then we met up with friends and family for Paxton's birthday party!

Check this big girl out!

Cousins!

And more cousins :)

These two moms are some of my favorites!  And let's talk about cute baby Beau?  Don't you want to squeeze his cheeks?

We had a blast with these two and all our other Missouri family!

I'm so glad we made a last minute trip to visit!  We loved seeing them all!

BONUS Saturday Post!

Okay, Ladies!

A BONUS Saturday post!  :)  WAHOO!

The kiddos and I got back to Texas last night and I did a quick try on session of everything that had arrived from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale.  Sidenote-Tab left mid-week for a football clinic and he turned the A/C upstairs completely off.  Any guesses on how HOT our upstairs was??

99 DEGREES!

I've gotta tell you most of my purchases were WINS!

Here we go...

This burgundy dress...I love this one!  It comes in three different fall colors and will be cute paired with heels or booties ALL FALL LONG!

Girls!!!  I kind of LOVE this one too!  This ruffled jumpsuit fit great.  It is junior sizing so I sized up because {long torso} but I love the way the medium fit.  If you're long, I'd recommend sizing up.  I think I'll wear this with and without a denim jacket!  I must tell you the back has about a three inch spot that's open so my strapless bra shows.  I'm gonna see if my tailor could add something to cover that up.  If you're someone who can get away without a bra, then no worries!

And I kind of loved this jumpsuit as well.  The ruffled one above I can wear out and about, but this tweed jumpsuit is more dressy {and a little more out of my comfort zone}.  I'll wear this to church and other more formal events.  I need to have it hemmed just a teeny bit.

Talking about being out of my comfort zone...these pants!  I really wish I could make these work, but I think I'm just not trendy enough.  I'd pair them with something shorter waisted {because the pants are a little more high-waist}, but I just don't think they're "me".  I really like the plaid top AND the booties!  {bad pic of the booties and don't mind the semi-naked baby blur}

I'm LOVING this top for the fall!  GREAT fall color, but I sent this pic to a few girls in my family and the majority were NOT fans of my pants.  I'm gonna return these.  #itried

Due to the fact it was crazy hot in my house, I couldn't make myself put on real jeans.  :)  This Free People top I sized down in and when I wear it out, I'll put a cami underneath.  Parts of the top are lace only, so you can definitely see through.

The two gifts sets I purchased...mascara set and glowing skin set.

Don't mind the wrinkles, but this top will be something I grab constantly until it cools off!  The two reviews says it runs large, but I ordered my normal size and I thought it was very true to size.

I also scored this long cardigan and know it'll get all kinds of wear.

I ordered all of the above for Britt, but the coat is way too big and so are the Toms.  Those two are going back, but the others are HITS!  And she LOVES the light up high-tops BIG TIME!
Ebby Lee is stoked about these sneakers.  I mean if you were nine, wouldn't you be?  ha!

I have a few other items in the process of being delivered.  As they make their way in, I'll let you know if I stumble upon any treasures.  ;)

Hope you guys have a great Saturday!

Friday Favorites

Hi Friends!

This is the time in the summer when I start to panic about doing all the things.  The start of school is quickly approaching...it's exactly ONE MONTH FROM TODAY.  EEEEEKKKK!!!!  My kids don't read this blog, but if they did we'd have heard a big gasp from the oldest two.  ha!  Not to worry, we still have lots of fun planned for the last four weeks.  Hope you are soaking up the last of your summer as well!

Today, I'm driving the crazies back to Texas after spending time with the family and as always, I'm teaming up with Narci and Andrea to bring you FRIDAY FAVORITES.  It's the day of the week we invite bloggers to join us by sharing their faves.

First up, the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is now LIVE TO THE PUBLIC.  If you don't have a Nordstrom card and have been waiting anxiously to shop the sale, NOW is your time!  You can shop the entire sale NOW!

Okay, don't mind my post-pool crazy hair, but I wanted to share these shoes with you!  The wedge sneakers are CUTE, you guys!  My big fear was they wouldn't be very comfortable and one thing I know about myself is when I'm getting ready for the day 9/10 times I'm grabbing the shoe that's more comfortable.  These are comfy!  In the fall, I think I could throw a sweater over this outfit and go!  Or I could dress them up with jeans.  Think they'll be a fall FAVORITE!  I know sizing has been super limited for a while, but I'm hoping a restock happens ASAP!

*Oh, and these were not in my original, "What I bought from the Anniversary Sale" post because I made a late-night purchase one night (after my big purchase) while I was searching the site.  Somehow they showed up before all my other goodies.

One more of the shoes (and cute baby feet)...I'm telling you-CUTE!

I didn't plan this road trip well, because everything else has arrived at my house in Texas while we've been in Missouri.  So I can't show anything else today, but I'm hoping to throw a post up this weekend of my hits/misses from the sale.  You can see what I ordered in this post.

I just finished Tell Me Three Things last week.  I'm pretty sure I got this recommendation off some "Must Read List" on Pinterest.  #imasuckerforthose

This is a teen/young adult fiction book (thanks to those darn lists, I don't pay attention to that when ordering!!).  But I was a big fan of this one!  The main character, Jessie, loses her mom and her dad gets re-married moving the family to California.  That'd be tough anyway, but as junior in high school she really struggles with all the changes.  Someone begins anonymously messaging her giving her advice about her new school...who to befriend, best teachers, etc.  Throughout the story, you're guessing about the identify of this secret friend.  The author wraps it all up well at the end. Cute, cute read!

I've gotten lots of messages asking about when I read...I definitely have more time in the summer.  I read the ENTIRE way to Florida and back.  Most evenings I take a bath before bed and that's MY time to read for 20ish minutes before going to bed.  During the school year, I don't knock as many books off my list because I don't have as much down time.

The conversation I had with my FAVORITE five-year-old last weekend-
Bowen:  "Mom, Nixon thinks I have a crush on Shimmer and Shine."
{FYI, Shimmer and Shine are cartoon characters.}
Me:  "Do you?"
Bowen:  "No, Mom!  I'm not even into girls yet."

#yet
Sigh.

Did you check out my Tuesday Talk post this week?

I asked for app recommendations for kids and you guys were so sweet to send me some great recommendations.  If you're looking for some new ideas, go read the comments!

You guys I kid you not when I say the humidity gets my I-Phone camera all kinds of whack!  But, I wanted you to see this dress.  I ordered for summer and finally remembered to take a picture for you.  It's a really pretty color and can be dressed up or dressed down for many different occasions.

I think that wraps it up for today, friends!

Hope you have a GREAT weekend!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!  This made me LAUGH!

We're having a GREAT summer, but my family has moments like this.  Does yours?

We're soaking up our last few minutes of our family trip before driving back to Texas tomorrow.  I promise to be back for Friday Favorites though!  See you then!

Photo Every Hour 7.18.18

Hey Hey Everyone!

Hope you're having a great week!  Just last week I did a little Photo-Every-Hour over on my Instagram Stories.  I got a lot of messages from you guys saying you were fans, so I promise to do it a little more frequently.  Since we're in Missouri for the week, I thought it'd be fun to show you a peek into a day of family togetherness.  :)  Family is coming over to swim at my mom's house and it should be lots of fun.  So, be sure to follow along over on Instagram {slaughteren} where I'll be sharing as close to every hour as I possibly can.  #illtrynottoforget

Just in case you don't have Instagram, this was my day last Monday....a pretty typical summer day.

6:30 a.m.
I set my alarm to get up earlier but woke up in the middle of the night and could not go back to sleep.  I reset it in the middle of the night and slept way later.  Much, much needed!  I'm one of the those people who have the hardest time going to sleep if I wake up in the middle of the night.  #ugh  Lots of you asked me about this book, Finding I Am.  It's a bible study by Lysa TerKeurst.  I haven't been doing it long but I'm a big fan, so far.  I just download the videos on Lifeway.com and watch those on my own.

7:30 a.m.
My little shadow and I were all ready for the gym!  I got lots of questions about my shorts.  You can find them here.  Looks like the stripe is sold out, but they come in several solid colors.

8:30 a.m.
I need a filter BIG TIME, but this is me right before our workout class began with two girlfriends, Shay and Brooke.  I promise the matching tops were accidental!

9:30 a.m.
I picked up these four from the gym childcare before we left to run a few errands.

10:30 a.m.
My favorite errand because I never have to leave the car!  :)

11:30 a.m.
We spent a couple hours at the pool playing with friends, eating lunch, and burning off some energy.

2:30 p.m.
The big kiddos got busy doing something quietly, Britt was taking a nap, and I worked.

4:00 p.m.
I enjoyed my afternoon cup of coffee and was still working while Britt kept sleeping.

5:30 p.m.
Tab and I locked ourselves outside while he grilled chicken for dinner.  And by locked I just mean that every time a child attempted coming out back, we'd send them right back inside.

7:30 p.m.
We took a family walk after dinner.

9:00 p.m.
Everyone was showered, ready for bed, and I enjoyed a bit of this book before going to sleep.  The Wedding Date was a girly, romantic novel that's RATED R.  I had several of you message me about it.  Most of you guys were fans, but you seemed to all go into it knowing it was rated R.  Just don't want anyone to be surprised!  :)

That was our Monday.

Be sure to follow along today as I share a "Day in our Life" every hour.

Happy Wednesday!
XO
