Our Weekend in Pictures

Hey Friends!

Happy Tuesday!

This past weekend was full of fun, super festive, and included a couple firsts as well.  With four kids {especially if one's on your hip}, it can be hard to take pictures when we're out, but I think you can see the fun we had this weekend, for sure.

Thursday afternoon-I brought my office to the couch.  I worked with the fire on and it was oh, so cozy.

I try my best to have it all together 100% of the time.  But let me tell you that never happens.  Shay and I carpool to/from preschool with the little kids {minus Britt-this year}.  Thursday afternoon I picked up and things were going so well.  As I was loading kiddos in to the car, trying to keep everyone out of the street, I turned around to see this and just had to laugh.  As a mom, we're always juggling things and a lot of the game is just figuring out what you can let go of at the moment.  For me on Thursday afternoon, it was the stroller.  :)

Thursday evening, we partied hard for Meagan and Rob's birthdays at the Shull house.  SO MUCH FUN!

Friday night we watched Prancer with the kiddos.  Do you guys remember that Christmas movie?  It was a good one!

Saturday morning these sweet girls had their first volleyball game!  And it was my coaching debut-ha!  A while back Ebby Lee mentioned wanting to play volleyball and I offered up my coaching skills.  She was STOKED!  So we reached out to other girls in her grade at school and voila-a team was formed!  {I should add-I began playing volleyball in fifth grade and played until I was a senior in high school.  I attended volleyball camps, played club volleyball for several years, and even made All Tournament Teams and All District Teams.  I'm saying all that to say-not in a braggy way-but I was good at it.  But it's something I haven't done since high school!  And why does that seem like so long ago?}  Andrew volunteered to help me and at our first practice I had a hard time remembering some rules!  EEK!  So to say I was a little nervous on Saturday morning would be an understatement!  ha!

Tab told me he'd taken a couple pictures at the game and as I was scrolling through his pictures I saw this.   #fourthkidproblems  It's a good thing she loves Nixon.  :)

I was SO PROUD of those girls!!  We only had one practice before our first game and they've seriously come so far since then!

Ebby Lee had so much fun!  {Which was my main goal for the season so WAHOO!}

Saturday afternoon, Nixon had his first basketball game.  Complete mom fail-I forgot to take a picture AT the game, but I grabbed one at home right after.

We changed clothes, added some layers, and made our way to downtown McKinney for dinner.  We had a delicious dinner at Sugarbacon.  If you're on the square, you should try it ASAP!

And then we walked over to meet this crew for the parade of lights.

A selfie with some of my favorite mamas!

And I'm stealing this from my friend, Brooke's, Insta-Story.  It was just a few minutes after this picture that Britt lost her mind.  Maybe she got cold?  Maybe there were too many people?  I don't know what happened.  She was hanging with big kids and then decided she needed her mama, which is where my pictures end.

Oh, but one more of these cute mamas.  :)

I held her for most of the parade.  Then we borrowed a chair and watched the last few minutes of the parade snuggled up like this.  Love this sweet girl of mine!

Bowen is a big fan of Mr. Craig!

We had the BEST night with a ton of our friends getting all kinds of festive for Christmas.  :)

Sunday, we dedicated Britt at church.  This means we committed to our church family to raise her under God's direction and teach her about Jesus.

It was just a sweet, sweet time.

That girl.  We love her big.

Sunday afternoon, it was these two and me at home with no groceries.  I decided it was time for us to head to Trader Joe's.  I'd been a couple times but driving there I pass five grocery stores.  FIVE.  Time is of the essence when I'm grocery shopping so I think that's why I'm not a die-hard Trader Joe's fan.  Or maybe I've just never gotten the right stuff?!  I'm not sure.  I left with goodies for dinner Sunday night-salmon, brussel sprouts, a salad kit, and ravioli {because the package said, "TRUFFLE RAVIOLI", so I couldn't resist.}.  I also grabbed dinner for last night too.  I've heard about that Orange Chicken from a ton of people but I've gotta say-I'm weird about chicken.  #allme  So, I've always resisted that.  But this time I tried it-along with the fried rice.

I also want to add that Bowen's outfit is what I was trying to document by the picture.  He told me red and red {Nixon's shirt}-it matches!  #howcaniarguewiththat

And I'm pretty sure 90% of my town was squashed inside that Trader Joe's on Sunday afternoon.  I ran into two different friends but had to stop talking mid-sentence because my cart was being pushed down the aisle by the current of people!  So many people!

If you have something you highly suggest at Trader Joe's, please share with me!  I tried to get the frozen pancakes, but they were sold out.  I'd heard great things and they must be good considering #soldout.

Have a great day, friends!

Most Popular Posts of 2017

Every year I like to highlight some of YOUR favorite posts of the year.  These are the posts that got the most views, most comments, etc.  Maybe you missed a post or two this year and it's a fun way to look back at the most popular highlights.  :)

And if you're wondering why I'm doing this so early in December, it's because I'm taking some time off after Christmas and my calendar is all filled up next week.

Last year, this was the list...{It was ALL ABOUT THE VACATIONS.}
#5 Slaughters in Mexico

The Slaughter family traded in our Florida beach trip for a Mexican vacation this year.  From dolphins to sand to tacos by the pool we had a BLAST!  I shared it all in Part 1,Part 2Part 3, and Part 4.

#3 New York City Fall Trip with the Family

The kiddos and I packed up and headed to New York City with Tab for a trip to the Big Apple and a West Point football game.  I shared the family fun in Part 1Part 2, and Questions Answered.

#2 New York City Spring Trip with Shay

Earlier this year, I accompanied Shay on her first trip to the Today show and my first trip to New York City!  We did all the girly things you can imagine and I shared it in Part 1Part 2, and Part 3.

#1 Spring Break Disney Cruise

For Spring Break this year, we packed up and headed south for a Disney Cruise with the Shull family.  It was five days full of fun in the sun.  We can't wait to go back!  I shared it all in Day 1Day 2Day 3Day 4, and You Asked.

See what I mean?  The vacations were definitely the highlight over on the blog.

This year, this sweet face dominated the Top Five for sure. :)

2017 List:

This one deserves an honorable mention.

This was one of Britt's first weeks home.  It was a typical hot random mess of things including some pictures from the pool, my first week solo while Tab was working out of town, and a few hours to myself (pictured above :)).

#4 Spring Break Trip

We spent the first couple days of Spring Break in Denver and ended the trip in Vail.

#3 Britt turned TWO!

#2 Bringing Home Britt

On May 9th, we headed to Beijing to begin the trip of bringing home our Britt.  I blogged all the details-

#1 Slaughters are Adopting

We shared our exciting news {that we'd been keeping a secret for over a year!} and left just a few days later to get our girl.

THANK YOU for being a part of this little piece of the internet with me.  I'm so thankful for you girls.  Your comments, messages, e-mails, and texts mean so much.

Friday Favorites

EEK!!!  It's December 8th, friends!  Just 17 MORE DAYS UNTIL CHRISTMAS!

Britt just can't believe it.  17 MORE DAYS UNTIL HER FIRST CHRISTMAS!

All the holiday festivities have me wanting to let my kiddos stay up way too late so we're excited to be one day weekend closer to Christmas break.   I'm linking up with Narci and Andrea to share some favorites with you today.  #likealways

First up, Nordstrom asked me to talk sweaters with you and one thing is for certain this year-I'm having a love affair with sweaters so I knew this would be perfect for me.

I have two sweater tips I learned this year...1. In the past, I've always ordered my normal size in a sweater and let me tell you...that is not the way I prefer a sweater.  I like them a bit oversized.  This year I'm ordering one {if not two} size up.  If you've never given this a shot, you might want to try.  2. I prefer a front-tuck with a sweater.  Some sweaters tend to be on the short-side for us long-waisted girls but with a little front tuck IT DOESN'T MATTER!  You should grab a cute belt and try this tip ASAP!

Seriously, you might have been doing these two things for years, but they're changing all my thoughts on sweaters!  #someoneshouldhavetoldme

I have ALL the heart eyes for this sweater.  I LOVE the color...it's a white, ivory, grey combo.  It can hang ALL WINTER LONG!  The sleeves on this one are fun too.  I'm normally a small in tops, but for this one I ordered a large and I LOVE it!  I paired it with these dark jeans, a leopard belt {mine is sold out but this is super similar}, and these booties.

This sweater is very similar in the color scheme.  It says, "Red", online but it definitely looks more ivory/maroon combo to me in person.  For size purposes, I ordered an "8".  This one is a bit shorter than the first sweater, but with the front tuck it doesn't look too short at all.  It might be hard to tell from the picture but the neckline on this sweater is really pretty.  Can't you see me in a ski lodge by the fire drinking my coffee and reading a book with this sweater?  ;)

This Dolman sleeve mock-neck sweater comes in three other colors and is under $40.  It's not a thick sweater, but will be perfect for mildly cool days {mostly what we get in Texas}. I ordered a small and it fit great.  You could size up or stay true to size on this one.

I tried to only focus on sweaters you could wear before AND after Christmas.  This red sweater caught my eye and I just couldn't look away.  The sleeves on this top are fun.  They bring the party, that's for sure.  I ordered an "8" in this one as well.  I think I could have ordered my normal "4" and been fine, but again, I like the oversize look as long as I pair it with skinny jeans to give some balance. The color is gorgeous for Christmas.  If you've been looking for a fun, festive holiday sweater, look no further.

This sweater just got marked down-40% off {within the last two days!}.  I absolutely love the length on this top.  It does have side slits and I'd say it's more on the loosely threaded side as well.  {That's my way of saying-It's not tightly woven.  You can't see through it, but it wouldn't hurt to wear a tank underneath.}  I love this ivory color paired with dark denim or black for the holidays, but it also comes in two other colors as well.  I ordered a medium so I'd say I sized up just one.

Maybe you have a ski vacation coming up or are looking for another Christmas gift?  No matter the case, I hope I helped you see something you like today!

Thank you, Nordstrom, for sponsoring this portion of the post.

Let me introduce you to the newest member of our family, Blue Sparkle Diamond Slaughter.  The Shull family gifted this fish to Bowen for his birthday.  And Bowen has never been more excited!  I'm pretty impressed with our pet skills...Blue Sparkle Diamond had to stay in a little plastic bowl for only three days, then we had to transfer him to the tank with special water-at room temperature, and feed him just the right amount.  It's been almost two weeks and I'm so happy to report...Blue Sparkle is doing great!

This past weekend was the holiday dance recital {or actually I should say that in plural form because there were three performances} for Ebby Lee and Kensington.

They performed in both Nutcracker shows.

Her cheering section was there and we were so proud of her.

Can you spot Ebby Lee?  She's third  from the Sugar Plum Fairy.

She also performed a tap and jazz number.  I was so proud of these girls!  They smiled, did their very best, and had fun!

This is the Slaughter house all decorated for Christmas.  If you missed my inside home tour, you can see it here.

Sunday morning before church I realized we were all MAID FOR PLAID so we snapped a selfie.  I'm not sure where Britt is looking.  haha!  #oops

On Wednesday, Britt took the shortest nap known to man and then thought it was time to go about her day.  This girl loves to color so I set her up in the floor beside me while I worked at my desk.  I glanced down and had to laugh.  She's got her sippy cup, goldfish, and crayons-but she's laying there like she's a big kid coloring!

This popped up on my FB feed from five years ago.  Look how tiny they were.  Ahhhhh!!!

I hope you guys have the BEST weekend!  XO
